Sweetwater Behavioral Health and Wellness is excited to announce an upcoming in person one-day workshop on eating disorders (ED).  This is intended for providers who do not specialize in EDs and would like additional training in identifying and treating EDs.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of training, participants will be able to:          

  1. Compare and contrast the epidemiology, etiology, and course of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder

  2. Describe the presentation of avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and how treatment strategies differ from those used in other EDs

  3. Enumerate criteria for referral to higher levels of care, including hospitalization

  4. Know which questions to ask clients when assessing for disordered eating behaviors

  5. Discuss diagnostic and screening tools that can be utilized for ED assessment

  6. Establish a functional knowledge of psychotherapy treatment guidelines for individuals seeking treatment for feeding and eating disorders

  7. Understand the basic theoretical principles underpinning the current recommended psychotherapy treatment interventions for individuals with feeding and eating disorders

  8. Identify resources for further training in recommended psychotherapy treatment interventions

  9. Describe common medical complications of eating disorder behaviors

  10. Discuss medical interventions for various manifestations of eating disorders

  11. Explain ED-related medical complications that occur in pregnancy, diabetes, and after bariatric surgery

  12. Enumerate basic principles of general nutrition

  13. Describe the difference between general nutrition and nutrition related to eating disorder treatment

  14. Understand concerns related to the process of nutritional restoration

This program is offered for 5.5 CE hours of social work continuing education through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh's School of Social Work, a Council on Social Work Education accredited school and therefore a PA pre-approved provider of social work continuing education.
